Helicoil repair for disc brake post mount

After some overzealous brake alignment efforts, the post-mount thread became stripped and the bolt retained only with Loctite. I baulked at the cost of a replacement fork so I ordered M6 thread insert repair gear.

Yeah, that thread is gone. I used the drill and vacuumed out the old stuff.

Inserting the new thread. I bought longer ones as I feared the ones in the kit would be too short.

Oh dear. The tool gets stuck and there's thread left over. I cut it off with cable cutters.

The thread insert guide tool is a bit mangled. Perhaps I will measure the depth of the drill as well as the depth of the tap before driving a thread insert next time.

Otherwise it seems to be a solid repair at around $15 (with my own labour but less wastage) instead of $100.

Giant Revolt 2 back brake noise

I think mine is mostly due to the locknuts coming loose on the rear wheel. Doing them up seems to avoid noise for the next few months and alignment is achieved with the rotor and callipers.

Will it airfry?

Chicken Wings

Yes, chicken wings airfry!

Fish balls

Yes, they airfry. Some split though. The green salt-encrusted one airfried.

Sandwich with preheated mac and cheese from a can

Yes it does.

Sweet potato slices

It didn't airfry so well. It wasn't as crispy as anticipated. Perhaps the placement inside the airfryer was suboptimal.

Mysterious onion

This one was doomed to begin with as the blooming attempt didn't happen until 20 minutes before cooking.

Lotus root

Definitely works! Very tasty.

Intestine

It fried but not really my kind of flavour.

Beancurd

Definitely works. Very crunchy.

Shiitake mushrooms

They airfry but I didn't think they were very interesting.

I can't remember what this was, but it airfried.

Eggplant

Eggplant airfries!

buffets

That moment of clarity when you realise you have nothing to be ashamed of by being there. As you make eye contact with someone that you know at the all-you-can-eat buffet and acknowledge their presence. For they have an equal amount to be ashamed of by their presence.

Finally worked out how to use that Hebie Elastic Strap for pannier racks

It took way too long, but most of that time was procrastinating.
Next step: test carrying pizza home on it. I'll need to insulate the pizza box too. Hopefully a plastic bag will do.

Also known as Hebie Quicksnap double tension belt strap 0199 DH.

Repairing Shimano SL-M770A gear indicators

When trying to get the gear cable out of my Shimano SL-M770A 9-speed shifters, I did something silly and took the current gear indicator hastily. I managed to snap off the white plastic part that gets pushed around by the main indexing mechanism. Having persisted for several months not knowing which gear I'm in a convenient manner, I did a dodgy repair.

I drilled a 0.7mm hole into the remaining length of the plastic column and inserted a PCB header pin. It was then cut to match the previous height.

Since it was a few months since disassembling and shelving the project before getting around to fixing it, I wasn't sure about reassembly. None of the exploded diagrams go into this level of detail. Hopefully this is the correct arrangement of internal parts. It seems to work.

Why do certain people work so hard?

Hmm... maybe the reason some people throw themselves so hard at work is to avoid actually having to find hobbies and interests. Kind of like the simple, single goal to do well during schooling. Thoughts?
